If you use printers on a regular basis then having errors is quite common. Any technical glitch can be resulted as an error and one such error is “Printer in Error State”. This error is not subjected to a particular brand because it can occur in most of the printer brands. This error basically refers that your printer is having some kinds of error like driver issues, cartridges issue or some other error that needs printer to be restarted.

The causes of this error can be different in all the brands and it is impossible to provide a single solution for this error. In this article, we have provided some of the most possible solutions for this error.

Solution 1: Checking Physical Components

You need to go through and check all the physical components of your printer. It basically includes the configuration and installation of the toner, paper stack paper jamming, power supply, cover etc.

You also need to ensure that the connection between printer and computer is proper. After getting ensure that all the physical components are working the way they should be and you can move forward with the other solutions.

Solution 2: Power Cycling The Entire System

The error can also be resolved by power cycling the computer and the printer. There are some issues in the printers that can only be resolved when you reboot the printer properly. Power cycling refers to the act when you completely turn off and on your computer and printer.

  1. Shut down your computer and printer properly.
  2. Once the power is completely off, remove the power cord of printer and the computer.
  3. Wait for around 10 minutes and then plug everything back in and start up the system. Once the printer and computer started again, ensure that the problem is resolved now.

Solution 3: Uninstalling The Printer And Printer Applications

To resolve this error, you can also try to uninstall the printer and printer drivers from the computer. Once you uninstall the printer, it will remove all the data related to the printer from your system and then you will be able to install all of them from scratch.

  1. Press Windows + R from your keyboard.
  2. Enter msc in the search field and press the Enter key.
  3. From the Hardware category, click on the printer queues.
  4. Now right click on the printer and click on Uninstall device from the drop-down list.
  5. Once the printer has been uninstalled properly, turn off the entire system.
  6. Press Windows + R from your keyboard and enter cpl in the search field and press enter.
  7. Right-click on your printer and click on Uninstall
  8. Now connect the printer to your computer and print a test page to ensure that the error is resolved.

Note: In case if the computer was unable to search the printer on your network then you can reset your router and connect them again.

Solution 4: Updating Printer Drivers

In case if the above three solutions didn’t worked for you and you are still facing the error then you can try to update the printer drivers. You will find the latest updates for your printer drivers on the manufacturer’s website. You need to download the driver according to your model.

Note: Sometimes the new driver that you installed doesn’t work properly so you need to download the older version which compatible with your printer.

  1. Press Windows + R from your keyboard.
  2. Enter msc in the search field and press the Enter key.
  3. From the Hardware category, click on the printer queues.
  4. Now right click on the printer and click on Uninstall driver from the drop-down list.
  5. Now you will get a dialogue box on screen that will ask you which way do you want to update the driver. Click on the Browse my computer for driver software
  6. Once the download is complete, restart your computer and make sure that the error is now resolved.

Note: You can also opt the first option (Search automatically for updated driver software) in case if you were not able to update the driver manually.

Some of the additional solutions to fix this error are as given below:

  • Clear all the print queues and restart the print spooler service.
  • Make sure that you have installed the exact drivers with the model number are installed.
  • From the device manage, open the Parallel Port
  • Double click on it to open the settings and click on Use any interruption assigned to the port
  • From the device manage, go to ports > LPT > properties.
  • Enable the Enable Legacy Plug & Play
